FRAUD ALERT

As of July 11, 2018

It has come to the attention of the Office of the Public Defender that scammers are calling individuals demanding immediate payment via a Green Dot or prepaid card, asserting that a family member has been arrested and being held in the County Jail. DO NOT fall for these scams, and report them when they happen to you.

Citizens are reminded that the Office of the Public Defender does not accept payments for bond or any other reason.  If you receive a call from someone reporting to be from the Public Defender's Office asking for money in any form, we highly encourage you to call our Office at (334) 265-1783 to confirm the details.  Please note that the Public Defender's Office will NOT make demands for immediate payment via a debit card or other specific methods for any reason.
